The Foundation

The Foundation of any good kitchen crews relies upon a team. Upon speaking of teams and teamwork in class it really made me realize how important these teams truly are, as well as how important it is to have a strong team behind you as well as working with you. The team needs to be cohesive, that is, they all must have similar goals and want the same outcome. If they all want to move in different directions the team itself will not mesh nor will it be very effective.
Tuckman's Sequence of Group Development lists it as:
Forming
Storming
Norming
Performing
& Adjoining
While I wholly agree with this order, but I don't believe that it is giving enough time to consider the forming. Forming is one of the most important factors for the team. You need to have diversity when it comes to teams. That dosen't mean of all different races, but different strengths and weaknesses. If you have all one strength then the weakness are going to be exploited. Diversity is key and the FOUNDATION for a good team.
